Disclaimer
Pitch & Pack is an educational guide for beginners. It is not an official source for any park, forest or campground, and it is not a substitute for one.
The rules of the place come first
Every campground and public land area sets its own rules. Park alerts, posted signs and the instructions of rangers and staff always come before anything you read here. If a guide and the official page for your campground disagree, follow the official page. Then tell us through the Corrections page.
Things that change by place and by day
Fire restrictions, closures, wildlife activity, weather, water access and reservation rules can differ from one place to the next and from one day to the next. A guide can explain how these things usually work and where to look. It cannot tell you today’s conditions. Before each trip, open the official page for your campground and read its current notices. Read them again right before you leave, because notices can change while you pack.
Camping has risks
Camping outdoors carries risks, including weather, fire, wildlife, rough ground and distance from help. Conditions can turn quickly, and phone service is not guaranteed at every campground. You are responsible for your own choices and for the safety of the people with you, including children.
What this site does not give
Nothing on Pitch & Pack is medical, legal, survival or safety advice. The guides do not teach first aid or emergency skills. For health questions, talk to a qualified professional. In an emergency, call 911.
The Planner shows suggested checklist items. It does not promise that your list is complete or right for your health needs, your group or your location.
No connection with government agencies
Pitch & Pack is not connected with, endorsed by or sponsored by the National Park Service, the U.S. Forest Service, the Bureau of Land Management or any other public agency. We cite their public pages as sources. Their names belong to them.
No product endorsements
The site does not endorse, rate or recommend any product, brand or service. Guides describe types of gear in general terms. If you buy equipment, follow its instructions and the rules of the place where you will use it.
